Beyond the podcasts

Longer term, Video House is a dream for a film space in Philadelphia, where people can watch, browse, talk, work, linger, make things, learn things, and come back often. Part video store, part microcinema, part workshop, part living room. The podcasts are one way in, but the good stuff is the people. Jane Schoenbrun is right that we understand our lives through screens, and movies give us a way to keep relating to people and life. So let’s use the screen as a way back toward each other. From there come conversations, friendships, obsessions, memories, taste, and whatever else opens up when people watch closely together.Beyond showing and sharing movies, we’d like to restore and distribute films that deserve another life.

Tell us your movie thing.
There's a room for you

Have a highly specific film passion you could talk about all day? Pitch a show, host one, bring us the strange little corner of movie culture you think deserves its own room. You don’t need a finished podcast. If the idea fits, Video House can help shape it, research it, produce it, and do the annoying parts. If it moves you, we want to hear you talk about it.You don’t have to live in Philly to get involved.

Waiting for Release

A podcast about movies waiting for the release they deserve. We’ll chat unreleased films, rights-limbo mysteries, impossible-to-stream masterpieces, and titles stranded without a decent Blu-ray. We’ll get into films stuck with questionable restorations, missing 4Ks, and movies that deserve a more thoughtful physical edition. Why is this so hard to see? Who has the rights? Is the restoration any good? Why is there no 4K? Why are the extras so thin? What would the dream release look like, and who would have to be bothered until it exists?Along the way, we’ll learn how boutique distribution and restoration work and try to do something about it 💪. Calling people up, chasing leads 🕵️, making the case in public, maybe even releasing or restoring something ourselves.
